I Believe The Medical Term Is 'Burnout'.

Okay. So. Things are still pretty crazy around here. I really thought I'd be able to settle in faster, but this is taking forever. I feel like I can't even catch my breath, I'm just so busy with work and taking care of Jericho (he had to stay at the animal ER for 36 hours this week, poor guy) and trying to get this house clean little by little and people are coming and going and I'm just like O_O.

(Sigh.)

I did finally get a chance to paint my nails, though. It's already been several days, so they're all chipped and haggard looking at the time of posting. And I haven't found the time to paint my toenails in, like, a week and a half.

(Siiiigh.)

I don't know how regular people function. How the hell to people get up, get ready, work for eight (or more!) hours a day, then come home, take care of their house/family/errands, and still find time to, like, shower or put on pants or feed themselves? Because I'm trying so hard and I am SUCKING at it. : (

One good thing did happen recently, though. I got my very first raise ever yesterday. So that's pretty rad. I can definitely use the extra money.

Anyway, the color I'm wearing right now is Wet n' Wild Fast Dry Greys Anatomy; a lilac to pale mossy green duochrome. My eight (nine?) year old brother, Efin, picked it out for me on his own for Christmas. He did an awesome job. (Thanks, Ef!)

The duochrome action with this polish is pretty subtle in real life, and my camera had a bit of trouble picking it up. Also: Can you tell I've been doing a lot of scrubbing lately? My hands have been screaming for lotion lately.
This polish does go on pretty sheer, and I needed four coats to get to pretty opaque. It probably could've used another coat, but it was taking a while to dry, despite being a quick-dry formula, and I had other things to do.

Mmmmmmcolorshifty.
I can't remember what day I put this on--the past two weeks are pretty much a blur in my head--but I know i got pretty good wear out of this because, as I mentioned, I've had it on for several days now, and it only just chipped last night.

Then, because I can't resist accent nails, I added two coats of  Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Ice Queen, a clear base with holo glitter and pale pink and cyan large hex glitters, that my sister's boyfriend, the amazing Phil (the guy's a goddamn puppeteer and writes poems about my sister--how awesome is that!?) bought me for my birthday.

When you look at this from the purple angle, the pink hex glitters look kind of blah, but from the green angle, they really pop.
I feel like I haven't rocked a duochrome in ages, so this was fun.

And, just because I only have one picture of this manicure, here's my shot of Sally Hansen Insta Dri Snappy Sorbet, a fuity, peachy-orange that shows shimmer in the bottle that's almost invisble on the nails (which I don't necessarily mind).

This makes me want dreamcicles soooooo bad.
I'm usually not a huge fan of oranges. I own a few, 'cause I feel like I have to, to round out my collection a bit, but I'd contemplated buying this polish for weeks before I actually did it, 'cause I was pretty sure that, unlike some oranges, this one would flatter my skin tone. And I'm glad I bought it, because it did flatter my skin tone. And it makes me happy to know that I have an orange that I like to wear.

Oh, and I suppose I should mention that I used Revlon Quick Dry Base Coat and Quick Dry Top Coat for both of these manis.

So yeah. That's it. Sorry I've been so slow lately. I don't know when work's going to slow down, and it really does feel like it's taking forever to get this house to where I want it. But I do think about you guys and miss reading your posts--I haven't even had time to sit down and catch up on all the blogs I follow. WHAT ON EARTH HAVE I BEEN MISSING!?

Plus the very sweet Stacy of Wickless & Polished helped me add the new, fancy buttons to my sidebar, and was so friendly and patient with my slow replies (I think I never even responded to her last email--Eek! Sorry, Stacy!). I really appreciate it!

But, uh, yeah. It's getting close to midnight, so I should go eat something and get ready for bed. I'm trying to get myself on a better sleep schedule, and it hasn't been easy. Ah well, if at first you don't succeed, bitch about it on your blog, then eat something weird while standing at your kitchen counter in your pajamas. That's what I always say.

Night, kiddos.

The Fact That There Are Christmas Themed Pringles Containers Already Is Killing My Soul.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHH.

I just wrote a kind of medium length entry about how I've been dealing with depression for the past few months, and how there's a lot of stressful stuff going on in my personal life right now, and how I feel like that plays a big part in me not having the motivation to update my blog more often, and I added a whole bunch of pictures, and then Blogger ATE IT.

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!??!??

(Sigh.)

Fine. I'll upload all the stupid pictures again. And come up with captions for all of them. Again. But I will not retype the post. I have my limits.

...I hope you really appreciate what I'm dealing with for you right now. No. Really.

*groans*

Okay, soooooo. Here:

To make up for not posting very often, here are a whole bunch of pictures in one post. We'll start with some old ones that my Facebook friends will probably recognize from my "I Love Nail Polish" album:

First up, a little snowman I did last winter, using just the nail polish brushes and a toothpick for the eyes, nose, and buttons. Unfortunately, I decided to wait several days before snapping this picture, and you can see how beat up it is. Still cute, though.
This picture was actually taken to show off my then-brand-new Bamboo Pen & Touch, but it features one of my very favorite polish combos: OPI Ate Berries In The Canaries and OPI Sun-body Loves Me!
My very first go at stamping using my Bundle Monster plates. I let my boyfriend pick the colors and design. He said he wanted it to look like a creamcicle.
He was a good sport and let me stamp his nail, too. I decided to play to his masculine side with a tiny tribute to bacon.
My first--and only--attempt at sponging. Not very pretty. Maybe I'll try it again someday...
I believe this was my second attempt at stamping. Plus freehand tips.
Oh my God, my cuticle line in this picture kind of makes me want to vomit. Still, this was one of my favorite stamped manis. The green really popped in real life.

I have a LOT more old pics, but I'm gonna save some, because I'm probably gonna need to to another of these picturebomb catch-up posts in the future...

So, on to more recent things!

A kind of lazy Halloween mani using this years Wet n' Wild Fantasy Makers polishes in Black Magic and Spooky Pumpkin. Again, I waited until I was ready to take the polish off to snap the pics, so it's looking a bit rough here.
This is the mani I actually wore on Halloween. I was thinking out loud about what I should do, and my boyfriend suggested bats on an orange background, so that's what I did. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Sun Kissed with a coat of Wet n' Wild Fantansy Makers Spooky Pumpkin, and the bat stamps from my Bundle Monster plates.
Oh, Clarins 230. You whore. <3
And lastly, and certainly leastly, I figured I'd throw in a shot of yours truly, doing what yours truly does best: Not knowing what the crap she's doing.

This is how I roll...

Okay, then. I hope throwing all these pictures at you was enough to make you forget that I'm a crappy blogger. Come back next week. Maybe there will be more words and pictures to look at or something.

Vanilla Glitter Milkshake

Well, I was bored at about four in the morning, so I decided to go ahead and start up a nail polish blog. ... TA-DA!

I'm kind of hesitant about this whole thing, because my blogging skills are pretty rusty (sorry, livejournal!), because my techniques and photographs are so amateur, and because there are approximately fifty gazillion polish blogs out there that are better and have more street cred (and posts--ha!) than mine, so why would anyone bother to read this?

Hopefully because they somehow stumble across this blog while Googling and are super enticed by my absolutely adorable blog title.

Annnnyway, for my very first post, I'd like to share the manicure I literally just finished about twenty minutes ago, which was inspired 85% by one of the blogs I follow and 15% by my sister, Amie, who recently came out and spent the night at my place.

Before my sister had to go home, I bought her a few bottles of nail polish at the drugstore down the street (plus a couple for myself--more on those in a later post). One of the colors she picked out was Wet n' Wild Party Of Five Glitters.

The very next day, I was perusing Lavender Parfait and came across this manicure, which uses the exact polish I'd just bought for my sister.

I took it as a sign, and sent my boyfriend to the store last night to buy me my own bottle.

Here's what I did with it:

First, I threw on my trusty ridge-filling basecoat, NailTek Foundation II*, then two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Whirlwind White for a good, opaque base.

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

Then I applied the first coat of my base color, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Me Now, which, as the name suggests, is quite sheer, and takes several coats to build up to anything resembling opaque (hence the Whirlwind White--clever, right?).

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

Once that was pretty much dry, I added a coat of my new glitter, Wet n' Wild Party Of Five Glitters.

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

One last coat of Sheer Me Now finished off the milky look I wanted.

 (Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

(Indoors, artificial light, with flash)

My right pinky nail came out the best, I think (please excuse my dry cuticles and hangnail--it was, like, three in the morning when I was doing this, and I was way too lazy to look for my cuticle balm).

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

All in all, I really, really like this manicure. Since it was just basic layering, it was super simple, and I lovelovelove the milky glitter effect. Plus--and this is just me being a mushy goon--it kinda makes me happy knowing that I'm wearing a polish that my baby sister also owns.

So, what do you think? Is this something you'd wear?

*Reviews and swatches of my polishes to follow.
