Happy (Day After My) Zero-th Blogoversary To Me!

In honor of my zero-th blog anniversary (I don't think 'zero-th' is an actual word, but I don't know how to make zero like '1st', '2nd', '3rd', etc., so 'zero-th' it is)--which actually happened yesterday, but my friend Caitlin just suggested the idea of a zero-th blog anniversary today--I'm not doing much of anything. : |

Except making this post.

And since this is kind of like the beginning of things, I guess I should post some pictures of where I'm at with my collection at this time. I'm not going to name off all the colors in this post. You'll just have to wait until I do swatches. ; )

If I'm still doing this blog in a year, I'll take some new pics of my collection, and we can see how it's changed. Or something like that.

These pictures will stand as a testament to my neophyte photography skills. Ew.

This is my "winners box"; the polishes I love--and use--most. Plus my stamping plates.

This is the rest of my collection (minus a couple I've put up for trade, so I don't really consider them "mine" any more).

My swatches. I also have two wheels of sheers, with each color swatched in one coat and then built up to opaque, but since all my sheers are also included on my color wheels, I didn't bother including them in this picture.

I'd really like to get one of those little plastic bin/dresser thingies with, like, three drawers so that I can store my stuff properly. Right now, I have a little too much to store in these two boxes, so when everything's in there (I also store my remover and my stamping tools in my winners box), it's all kind of jumbled and stuff's stacked on top of other stuff, and it's just a mess. But I'm fairly broke, so. I'm sure spending all my spare money on nail polish isn't helping matters...

So yeah. Um. This is the beginning. Woohoo. And happy zero-th anniversary, everyone. ; )

P.S. Ugh, can you feel how tired and bleh I am right now? My anemia's been so bad lately. I really should take iron supplements, but they upset my stomach. But anemia also makes nails weak and peely, so...

Vanilla Glitter Milkshake

Well, I was bored at about four in the morning, so I decided to go ahead and start up a nail polish blog. ... TA-DA!

I'm kind of hesitant about this whole thing, because my blogging skills are pretty rusty (sorry, livejournal!), because my techniques and photographs are so amateur, and because there are approximately fifty gazillion polish blogs out there that are better and have more street cred (and posts--ha!) than mine, so why would anyone bother to read this?

Hopefully because they somehow stumble across this blog while Googling and are super enticed by my absolutely adorable blog title.

Annnnyway, for my very first post, I'd like to share the manicure I literally just finished about twenty minutes ago, which was inspired 85% by one of the blogs I follow and 15% by my sister, Amie, who recently came out and spent the night at my place.

Before my sister had to go home, I bought her a few bottles of nail polish at the drugstore down the street (plus a couple for myself--more on those in a later post). One of the colors she picked out was Wet n' Wild Party Of Five Glitters.

The very next day, I was perusing Lavender Parfait and came across this manicure, which uses the exact polish I'd just bought for my sister.

I took it as a sign, and sent my boyfriend to the store last night to buy me my own bottle.

Here's what I did with it:

First, I threw on my trusty ridge-filling basecoat, NailTek Foundation II*, then two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Whirlwind White for a good, opaque base.

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

Then I applied the first coat of my base color, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Sheer Me Now, which, as the name suggests, is quite sheer, and takes several coats to build up to anything resembling opaque (hence the Whirlwind White--clever, right?).

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

Once that was pretty much dry, I added a coat of my new glitter, Wet n' Wild Party Of Five Glitters.

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

One last coat of Sheer Me Now finished off the milky look I wanted.

 (Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

(Indoors, artificial light, with flash)

My right pinky nail came out the best, I think (please excuse my dry cuticles and hangnail--it was, like, three in the morning when I was doing this, and I was way too lazy to look for my cuticle balm).

(Indoors, artificial light, no flash)

All in all, I really, really like this manicure. Since it was just basic layering, it was super simple, and I lovelovelove the milky glitter effect. Plus--and this is just me being a mushy goon--it kinda makes me happy knowing that I'm wearing a polish that my baby sister also owns.

So, what do you think? Is this something you'd wear?
